Mulberry - Amberley Lifestyle

Mulberry - Amberley Lifestyle

Introduced by creative director Johnny Coca at the Autumn Winter '17 London Fashion Week show, the Amberley family was born out of a modern exploration of Mulberry's heritage and classic British style, where reinvention comes from tradition.

Named after Amberley Castle, an English country seat in west Sussex dating back to the 12th century, the Amberley shape draws influence from leather goods associated with countryside pursuits – a nod to the original Mulberry Trout and Poacher bags of the 1970s – to create a new family of quintessentially British accessories.

This new range features equestrian-tinged stitching, quilting details, raw-edged construction, and fine saddlery leathers. It is adorned with the new signature hardware, the Rider's Lock, reminiscent of the metal on horse bits and bridles. The Amberley family is both beautiful and utilitarian, a fundamentally British mix.

Practicality and fashion go hand in hand. The Amberley collection is available in five different silhouettes – the Amberley, Amberley Satchel, Small Amberley Satchel, Mini Amberley Satchel, and the Amberley Hobo.

Echoing the colours of the Autumn Winter Ready-to-Wear collection, the range is offered in a vibrant palette of colours including Rust, Castle Blue and Dark Amethyst, as well as the core shades of Oak, Oxblood, Clay and Black. In addition to Mulberry's natural leathers, graphic snakeskin and croc print leathers complement the clean lines of the Amberley.

Exemplifying Mulberry's philosophy of creating accessories that are beautifully made, and made to last, the Amberley collection is a classic that can be handed down through the generations. Like all Mulberry pieces, the Amberley is an heirloom for tomorrow.

From the Postman's Lock to the Rider's Lock - A new Mulberry signature

Modernity always needs roots in the past. The Rider's Lock, a new Mulberry hardware signature, is born from the Postman's Lock, an iconic emblem of Mulberry's heritage.

The Rider's Lock first appeared on the sleek silhouette of the new Amberley family launched at the Autumn Winter '17 London Fashion Week show. Named after the much-loved British countryside pursuit and equestrian attire and attitudes that inspired Mulberry founder Roger Saul, the Rider's Lock embodies the distinctive idea of 'Le Style Anglais' established by the brand in the 1970s. A tradition, reinvented.

Exploring that heritage with a new perspective, Mulberry Creative Director Johnny Coca took inspiration from the rounded lines of the Postman's Lock and found beauty in the existing forms of this original hardware. By inverting them, he designed the slender, clean and functional lines of the Rider's Lock, reminiscent of a horse bit and bridle.

This new signature lock is a symbol of an evolution in Mulberry's history, a fresh point of view on a timeless classic. Honouring the past to create the future.
