Bottega Veneta Cruise 2019 is divided into three distinct groups. “They are like mini collections,” says Maier. “One delivers in November, one in December and one in January. Each is about what clients might need or want at the t ime when pieces a rrive in the s tore.” The collection begins with a continuation of the rich colors from the Fall/Winter 18 runway. These are channeled into a range of graphic checks, that transcend the average plaid. “ Every fabric is custom,” says Maier. For winter’s chill , there are mélange knits and a double-wool duffle coat—a sportier take on a signature fabric. The next group hits refresh in winter whites and desert hues punctuated by pops of bubblegum pink and mint green. Theunexpected palet te elevates the soft, casual look. Outerwear is highly functional with removable s hearling collars and a Steiff fur lining that can be worn solo. The third group hints at what might come down the Spring 19 runway. The statement revolves around the illusory dot, which Maier uses to create pointillist versions of menswear checks. Mixed with butter fly-print shirts and mélange knits, the look has a whimsical element. However, it’s balanced by the easy, essential nature of the silhouettes. Men’s bags are color ful and unique. The color-blocked Micro Intrecciato family is made of calf embossed with the woven motif. Another new group, made of dark nylon detailed with bright nappa trim and int recciato flaps, injects the collection with a fresh spirit. The Enamel Tote has been recast with vivid hardware and handles. For the coming Chinese New Year, each one comes with a matching charm made of nappa and croc in the shape of a pig.
