GIORGIO ARMANI COLLABORATES WITH CATHERINE GEORGE ON WARDROBE FOR “THE DINNER” WITH RICHARD GERE

Giorgio Armani collaborated with costume designer Catherine George and director Oren Moverman to create the style and wardrobe for the lead character in the movie “The Dinner,” starring Richard Gere. The film also stars Laura Linney, Steve Coogan, Rebecca Hall and Chloe Sevigny.

Playing the role of prominent politician and contender for a United States governor’s office, Richard Gere wears select Giorgio Armani suits throughout the crime thriller.  His wardrobe consists of a selection, ranging from suiting to casual pieces, including a two-button navy blue notch lapel suit, a cashmere overcoat and polo, all paired with a variety of shirt and neck tie options.

Giorgio Armani says: “I’m delighted to collaborate with Oren Moverman and Catherine George. Catherine understands my design philosophy and perfectly executed it for my longtime friend, Richard Gere.  As a cinema devotee, I’m always honored to play a small part in the creation of a movie. Richard Gere is such an inspiring talent.  He’s elegance personified-- an Armani man, onscreen and off. “

Costume Designer Catherine George notes: “At the wardrobe camera test, we instantly recognized that stride and confidence as Richard put the overcoat on over the suit and walked in front of the camera. The cashmere overcoat looks as luxurious as it feels. I can fully appreciate the long-term partnership between the actor and the iconic designer. No one wears Armani like Richard Gere.”

Director Oren Moverman states:  “If Richard Gere did not exist, Armani would have invented him.  When he put on the suit, not only did I see the character come to life perfectly, but I believe I heard celestial trumpets blowing and angels shedding tears.”

Giorgio Armani has been on the forefront of creating wardrobes for major motion pictures since he pioneered the movement by dressing Richard Gere in “American Gigolo” in 1980.  Since then, hundreds of films have incorporated designs by Giorgio Armani, including “The Untouchables,” “Gattaca,” “Stealing Beauty,” “Shaft,” the “Batman” series, “The Tuxedo,” “De-Lovely,” “Ocean’s Thirteen,” “Fair Game,” “The Social Network,” “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,”  “ A Most Violent Year,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

"The Dinner," an Oren Moverman film, is being released by The Orchard, a production of ChubbCo FilmCo, Code Red and Blackbird.  It will open in theaters from May 5, 2017.
