Exploring the origins of leather’s place in fashion history and its role in a sustainable future, Mulberry has launched its very first podcast entitled Made to Last. The first series, hosted by fashion journalist Susie Lau, takes the listener on a journey over three episodes speaking to a range of voices across the fashion and leather industries.
The first episode, ‘How leather became luxurious’, delves into the history of leather and how Mulberry fits into that narrative, with fashion historian Judith Watt, fashion journalist Alexander Fury and Raw Materials Technologist Amy Hunt, who has worked at Mulberry’s factory in Somerset for over a decade.
The second episode, ‘Leather pleasure’, examines the emotional value of leather, and features influencer and editor Bryanboy, television presenter Miquita Oliver and fashion designer Nicholas Daley sharing personal experiences of wearing and working with leather.
Reflecting the podcast’s playful tone, the third episode is called ‘It’s the how not the cow’. Listeners hear from Rob Percival, Head of Food Policy at the Soil Association, who shares his ideas for positive action, as well as vlogger, model and environmental activist Emma Winder, who gives her Gen-Z take on how her generation shops for and views leather today, and a tannery that’s putting environmental responsibility at the forefront of its business.
The Mulberry ‘Made to Last’ podcast release coincides with the brand launching its first sustainability report this May, looking at the progress Mulberry has made towards its ambitious commitment to transform the business to a regenerative and circular model encompassing the entire supply chain, underpinning Mulberry’s ambition to reach Net Zero emissions by 2035.
The first series will be available globally on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Ximalaya FM starting from May 5th. Video highlights directed by Isaac Lock will be available to view on website Mulberry.com and Youtube.
