Diane von Furstenberg Summer 2018 Collection

Jonathan Saunders’ Summer 18 collection for DVF is a range of day-focused clothes with an air of romance and nostalgia.

“I was thinking first of the color palette. It felt interesting to me to combine and surround bright prints and textile designs with neutral earthy colors. I was imagining hazy summer days; interiors of wicker and tapestries; bias cut ribbons of silk draped over the body, but also thinking of the eccentricity and the free spirit of a musician on the road,” says Saunders.

Feminine and dreamy, the clothes evoke natural movement and energy. Full blouson sleeves, smocking, and pin-tucking bring architectural volume to the silhouette. The clothes are cut and worn with ease: a wrap-style dress with kimono-inspired top, tie-front shirting, and a dress constructed from three oversized silk scarves.

Hockney-esque vital pastels are balanced by new neutrals, including bone and earthy terracotta. Hand-painted florals, tiny daisy buds, and wallpaper watercolor blooms decorate luxurious silk crepe de Chine. Bold graphic stripes, polka dots, and paisley join them. Delicate dot devoré, studded colored denim, rich jacquard tailoring, and stretch mesh – a modern signature fabric – are fabrics made for movement.

She is a woman with purpose; sensual and free-spirited, yet strong and with intention.
